Acts 12:7-10

Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.

Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.” And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,” the angel told him. Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision. 10 They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him.

  1. There is a spiritual world all around us, and it does radically interact with our world. We can’t always see it, and I hardly ever look for it. But here, it is very clear that the spiritual world overcame the physical world and effected a jail break. The angel closed, or kept closed, the eyes of the guards and delivered Peter safe and free outside of the jail.

When I dip into, or look into, the spiritual world, it is almost always for my own benefits or own needs. Peter was serving God as the cornerstone of the church and it was for God’s purposes that he was taken and for God’s purposes that he was freed.

I need to look with my spirit eyes and serve God’s kingdom and not my own needs.
