Acts 1:18-20

18 (With the payment he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field;there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out.19 Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)

20 “For,” said Peter, “it is written in the Book of Psalms:

“‘May his place be deserted;
    let there be no one to dwell in it,’[e]

and,

“‘May another take his place of leadership.’[f]

One response to “Acts 1:18-20

  1. He didn’t spend the money on whores or wine, he bought a field. It seems as if he was investing in real estate or investing in agriculture. But God’s providence was such that His will would be fulfilled by pouring the blood money into a place where Judas could die, and where people would stay away and there would be none to dwell with him.

    In my sin and selfishness I earn things, and invest them back into my selfishness. But there is no escape from the sovereignty of God. His plans will not be frustrated by my intentions and efforts. Like Jonah, I can go to His will now, or I can go after He swallows me and spits me onto an island.
