Proverbs 31:1-5

The sayings of King Lemuel—an inspired utterance his mother taught him.

Listen, my son! Listen, son of my womb!
Listen, my son, the answer to my prayers!
Do not spend your strength[a] on women,
your vigor on those who ruin kings.

It is not for kings, Lemuel—
it is not for kings to drink wine,
not for rulers to crave beer,
lest they drink and forget what has been decreed,
and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.

  1. When you are put in a position of responsibility and authority, your obligation is not to yourself, and to your own cravings. You can’t sate your own desires and forsake your obligation. God has put us in places where His mercy, and provision flow through us. Though we can not frustrate His will, our disobedience or selfishness can affect how we are used in the earth.
