Acts 5:25-29

25 Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.” 26 At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people would stone them.

27 The apostles were brought in and made to appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest. 28 “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,” he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.”

29 Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!

  1. They did not inquire of the men whether what they were speaking was truth or was from God. They had decided that the message was not in their best interests and that only wanted to silence them. They had stopped becoming seekers and they thought truth could only come through them.

    Peter’s words are so true, Obey God rather than men. At first blush, we may tend to think that this means when man’s law and God’s law comes head to head. And it does. But it also means when I want to obey my own flesh and my desires that I need to succumb my flesh to my spirit.
