Matthew 19:16-19

16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

18 “Which ones?” he inquired.

Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’[c] and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]

One response to “Matthew 19:16-19

  1. It must be weird for Jesus to teach the Law knowing that He was going to change everything in a short matter of time. He could not preach His blood as salvation until the Father’s time for Him had come. Yet He gave the man the steps to follow to please God. Loving others, and honoring your parents respects God’s plan for us and for our interaction with others.

Jesus taught that the law was not good, it was reflective of the One who was good. Every good and perfect thing comes from Him who is Good, the Father and His Son.
