Matthew 15:1-4

1Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 2“Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!”  3Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’[a] and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’

One response to “Matthew 15:1-4

  1. Legalists use the law to yoke people and to highlight their transgression. Jesus doesn’t overlook their transgressions, but He does bring attention to the hypocrisy of the Pharisees in placing traditions and practices over the Law of God.

We can all have pet practices and traditions that we want people to honor and that we get offended about. Christ wants to see that we love people and are using His words to teach and draw people and not to condemn them.
