Mark 12:38-40

Chapter Blog

38As he taught, Jesus said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted in the marketplaces,

39and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.

40They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely.”

  1. People who use religion and their positions in the church to their own gain and to victimize others. God expects those with more knowledge and revelation to be greater servants and teachers and not to use the understanding and revelation for their own purposes. He will judge those who do this “most severely”

  2. For a short time I walked around like that – i got caught up with the admin side of what I was doing, demanding perfection and trying to force doing good instead of doing God…it took a hard reality check to see the person i was becoming and make some changes – and for awhile I thought I had bypassed the punishment but maybe that will come in the end when I stand before God and I have to explain my behavior and how my actions hindered others growths – and how my “light” reflected Christ in a very negative manner!
