Mark 12:24-27

Chapter Blog

24Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?

25When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.

26Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the book of Moses, in the account of the bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’[d]?

27He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”

  1. God does not focus on death. He offers life and freedom from death and He is the God of those who choose to accept His freedom from death and sin. Christ was teaching them that not only was their logic wrong, their focus was wrong. He was not here to argue with them on their position regarding the resurrection, He was their to bring them life.

  2. you do not know the scriptures!!!! – many conflicts we run into with ourselves and others is when we dont know scripture –

    1) ourselves – we fight inward with our flesh about what is of God and not – we make excuses for our behavior or try to validate it but if the Word was in us, this battle would be less

    2) Others – when confronted with issues about our Faith – scripture allows us to “defend” and confirm the truth of Christ – but we dont study – we dont read –

    *Personal Note

I love vs 27 – it reminds me of the vulture vs eagle mentality that God dealt with me about awhile ago – Vultures prey on death, while an eagle preys on life – what am I focused on – things that are dead, negative or focused on life, on vision???
