Mark 1:6-7

Genesis 1

6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And this was his message: “After me will come one more powerful than I, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

On a side note—we only have 6 books in the NT to verse study -Finish Mark, then  Matthew, Luke,  1&2 Corinthians and the book of Revelation.

  1. John stood out, not to draw attention to himself, but because he was not of this world. He know that his purpose in the kingdom was to cry ahead of the Messiah and he did not care about his own comfort or satisfaction. He was powerful because: (1) He knew God’s will and his place in the kingdom, (2) He sacrificed his own desires to fulfill his purpose

  2. John was of a priestly descent and literally wore the opposite of the priests…they were dressed in high class clothes with jewels and fine linens, john is wearing leather and coarse stuff that rubbed the skin raw—John’s humility of not allowing his stature and position is seen in his clothes and the statement that one more powerful, better will soon come—I need this attitude, one of humility not driven by status, power or position…but by heart to serve the one better than me and be a voice!~
