1 Thessalonians 2:4-5

2 Chronicles 6

4 On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts. 5 You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed–God is our witness.

  1. When we do things like witnessing, or talking in front of people about what God has done in their lives, or even praying in front of people, we need to put ourselves aside not thinking about the glory that is given to us. When we do things like that, the glory should be directed towards Christ other than ourselves. He is the PERFECT one, we are the SINNERS. When we do things in God’s name that is what it is exactually for HIS NAME not ours. We dont deserve the glory and power God has not even a speck of it. That is why when things are done for God they are done for him fully 100 percent and nothing less. We as SINNERS, dont deserve what God has given us. He is the one who deserves ALL power and glory.

  2. Verse 5 is a shot at the religious establishment. The Jews has used the law to make slaves of the people and to provide for their living. Paul is saying that they do not preach a constricting doctrine to further their greed, they are just obedient messengers of God.

  3. not trying to please men, but God—God knows our hearts…

We have to be careful not to get caught up with people pleasing….We have to be sure our motives and actions our pure and that we try to do what God wants us to do and say….

  4. Honestly.. this is a tough one for me. I sometimes wonder what people think of me and I don’t want people to be upset with me or think bad about me. I’m not going to lie. And I think this can interfere with ministry and life a lot. I get nervous about making mistakes at work or at church because I don’t want people unhappy… but the end of verse 4 says something so important… that God tests our hearts, he knows we will make mistakes and do the wrong thing sometimes… but if our heart is in the right place then everything will be ok.
