2 Timothy 4:3-5

www.gypr.wordpress.com Psalm 25

3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

  1. What i think it is talking about is that people will turn away from you if you might be trying to teach them the word of God and it might be because they dont want to hear the truth. Yes, the truth is hard to here when we dont really want to admit that we are wrong. But if they stray away from us all we need to do is keep them in our prayers and pray that God will turn them around in the right direction.

  2. pretty sre this is talkin bout the end times when everyone is gonna start listenin yo what they want to believe that suits how they act rather than listen to truth and chnge from their way…but we have to keep our guard up especially the way the world is getting hese days…so just make sure you study scripture and actually seek after God and most important i think dont be afraid to live your faith aka to let your light shine for others to see…wheres the shame in screaming i love God who are we that we should be ashamed of who he is anymore …it;s time for us to take a stand for who we serve and not back down and do the “cool”thing

  3. interesting set of scriptures today to study especially after the recent set of emails i sent out the past two days to students of the purple book about why they are not blogging and i got every reason from it feels like they have to, to its a checklist to they forget or dont have a legit excuse and than I read this passage of scripture…the truth of what they need to be doing, why they need to do this is right in front of them…they understand to be a disciple of Christ is a discipline and at times a checklist, but thats the cost of being a disciple, yet I wonder does myspace feel like a checklist something that they have to do…no way…why, because thats what they like…talking to their friends, emailing and at times gossipping…and yet, the same thing can happen on this blog and this bible study but it doesnt feed their flesh like myspace and facebook and msn and all the other media devices in their lives…So yeah I am discouraged, down in the dumps cuz students left and right our turning from the truth, from sound doctrine, from the fundamentals…and i started questioning myself, my ministry, why do I do what I do…and than I read vs 5 to keep your head up and do the work of an evangelist and do the duties of the ministry—But its so difficult when I cannot find one student that is sold out to God, where are the Paul’s, Stephen’s, Timothy’s, Mary’s, and even the Martha’s…where are they…why are we not finding them…its tough to do the work of the ministry and of an evangelist when the fruits of your labor our non-existent…I know What GOd has called me to do and I know he has equipped me..>I know what I am suppose to be doing and how to do it…but I do, I try, I push and still the same thing—lukewarm students who claim to love God but dont want to work the vineyard, work the ministry….I love you all and I am always here…But i just dont understand what its going to take for it click before its too late……..

I was worried about this making a teenager mad or something or they getting offended but I really dont have to cuz they wont read this!

  4. For people who claim to be Christians think they are doing good in life by going to church every week, but when they hear something that is true it makes them uncomfortable or it doesn’t settle right with them then they turn away from all of that and go to a group of people who tell them things they want to hear saying its ok to do certain things when its really not. But I really love the last verse because it tells you to just push through everything in the world and to keep focus on Christ,

  5. i was reading some more and i was like hmmmmmm teachers—whats that all about—well instead of having one voice of truth in their lives, they have many so when one says what they dont like, they can go to someone else who will say what they like…How many teachers do we ahve in our lives…TV, myspace, video games, friends and im sure the list keeps going…these “teachers” dont tell us what we are doing is leading us away from our relationship with God, these teachers feed our needs, desires, wants…We have to turn from these teachers and turn to our teacher—THE WORD OF GOD and those who are not afraid to speak the truth—but speak it in love, not legalism—hehe…were you listening to PK’s sermon 😉

    anyways a few more thoughts—

  6. This verse is very prophetic and I believe that it is being fulfilled in the church today. People do not want to hear a message of repentance and do not want to be told that their actions are wrong. People want to do whatever their flesh wants to do and then come to church and hear messages of forgiveness and love.

God tells His pastors to teach and to preach the “whole counsel of God”. The reason for this is because God is merciful, but it is His reproof and correction that grows us.

A spoiled and rotten child does not want to be told “no” and what to do. And an unregenerate “christian” does not want to hear the correction of Scripture.

  7. “3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.”

This verse just grips my heart! I get so sad when I hear about churches that disregard portions of scripture just to accomidate their sins. This world no longer see’s things like homosexuality, sex before marriage, drunkenness, etc. as sin… all those things and more are acceptable to not only the world but to people claiming to be Christians. It just makes me wonder what else will become acceptable in the coming years.
