2 Timothy 4:1-2

www.gypr.wordpress.com Psalm 24

1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage–with great patience and careful instruction.

  1. This to me is talking about how God and Jesus will judge us for our works. Meaning that we need to be peaching the word and be prepared for anything what ever and when ever the problem might come up at.But be prepared to correct and let go of things along the way, but encourage and be patient with people.

  2. …be prepared in season and out of season…

To me this has more than one meaning.
    1. We must be living as if Jesus is coming back any second. We should be concerned for our testimony, and not be involved in anything that we would be ashamed for Jesus to be standing beside us watching (and listening to us) do.
    2. Also, we must be concerned for those who are not living in a relationship with Christ. As if Jesus was coming back any second, and they would have no other chance to hear about and accept Him, and so consequently, will be consigned to hell forever.
    3. Thirdly, we must be prepared anytime to give an answer to a question about a relationship with God. We must be studying our Bible, and know how God thinks about certain issues, and know God’s heart through reading HIs word, so that we may speak informed and not just go “uhhh, well, I dont know” If your teacher said that, would you be inclined to learn what they were trying to teach you??? Of course not, and if we try to tell someone something about God, we need to know what we are talking about, and the only way to know that, is to know HIM–through prayer, worship, and Bible study.

  3. REmember that this letter is a charge to a young pastor from his mentor. The first and most important advice is: Preach the Word of God.

Ron, this should be an encouragement to you. In this ministry, when you feel all else is failing, be faithful in teaching the Word of God. He says that it WILL NOT return void.

Next, he is to correct and to rebuke, to keep the flock in line. But he is to do it with patience and love.

  4. i had a tendency to think of in season and out of season meant like you just never know when God is going to need you, use you, etc…

However, in the current situation Im in, feeling a bit down in the dumps and such..i am learning that this is “out” of season and that regardless of how I feel, God is still able to accomplish all that he has planned. I just have to look beyond the “ME” and look to the Who.
