Romans 7:1-3 Esther chapter 4

1 Do you not know, brothers–for I am speaking to men who know the law–that the law has authority over a man only as long as he lives? 2 For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage. 3 So then, if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress, even though she marries another man.

  1. Paul seems to be going out into left field here, but you have to remember the context that he has been discussing.

He has been talking about us joining Christ in death and burying our flesh and arising to salvation by grace. Paul is making a brilliant analogy to men who are consumed by the Law. These are men who were wielding the law as a yoke and Paul is teaching them that the Law has no more dominion since grace has been brought about by the death of the Christ.

We can take a lesson from this for today. The Bible and its commandments are for us to obey and to search our lives, not for us to wield as a club against others. It is the job of the SPirit to convict.

  2. This to me s talking about how when we bring Christ into our lives and how we mold into a more accurate picture of Him because we are following His life plans for us by becoming 1 with Him.
