Romans 2:17-24

Sorry about the long post, didnt know where or how to section this one off

17 Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and brag about your relationship to God; 18 if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law; 19 if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark, 20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth– 21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? 22 You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23 You who brag about the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? 24 As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”

  1. i think this is talking about how aot of christians claim the title and talk down like they are better than others but then do exactly opposite what they say and dont live up to there reaputation theyve built…thats like walkin up to two guys fighting and telling them viokence is bad then punching em in the face…if you can tell people what they should and shouldnt do then shpuldnt you listen to what you say yourself

  2. it seems as though we are being warned about being a hypocrite (sp) you gotta walk out what you speak about…I love this…so many times you see someone tellin you that you shouldnt gossip then they will come to you and say stuff about other people…I think this kind of stuff is what keeps some people away from church…or at least it gives them an excuse, and honestly its a valid one…i dont want to be preached to about my sins just to find out that the preacher is doing the same stuff

practice what you preach….follow the Word…and when you know you are wrong (and we all are about somethings) then dont go around pretending you are better than me…I believe God would rather me come to Him and repent for my sins then someone else pretending they dont sin and puttin down those who do

obviously we should all try and not do it, but be honest with God, with others, most imporatant…..with yourself

  3. WOW.
    Now this got me thinking.
How can we reach others and tell them about Christ if we cant do that for ourselves first?
We cant live a life with 2 personalities. We cant come to church and lift our hands, talk to God, and make that profession of faith in front of everybody and show them your relationship with God when you come home and your a totally diffrent person.
Who wants to be a godly person around their church peers but when they go around all of their “cool, ungodly friends” its okay to act ungodly?
We have got to stop holding off what we have or want to have with God and be able to say I am a TRUE disciple of Christ, and put those words into actions.
If we want God in our lives, and live the RIGHT way, then we need to pull our heads out of the mudd and stop holding back. Like PK always says we need to come out of our comfort zone and spread the word of Christ and put our actions into godly actions.

  4. I think that these verses are talking about how we shouldnt be to faced. Like one day we go to chruch acting all happy then we get home we are a totally different person. Like Ronnie was saying wednesday night we need to be the person that we are at church like we are all the time. Some times we have to different lives that we live and we should be only living one… and that life should be worshipping God.

  5. Nice job on this one guys.

Paul is speaking to Jews here who believe that because they were chosen and given the Law that they are superior to the other nations. But Paul tells them that having, or hearing and knowing the Law is a whole lot different from receiving it and living it.

Some of the people in COFY feel that because their parents are leaders in the church or because they have been in church their whole life that this counts as some kind of “credit” in their Heaven bank account like the Jews thought they were superior because they had received the Law. Paul teaches that accepting and living the true word of God is what matters and is what we will be judged by.

  6. Gotta say coming to the blogs on days like this where people put forth effort and energy to grow their relationship and have a hunger for the things of God…why you must ask because I know that with hungry hearts God opens up the buffet of Trutha and Understanding.

Just some more scriptures to show us that there is so much more to our faith in Jesus Christ than just hearing the truth and knowing the truth, we have to walk the truth and be the truth and that only comes through a committed faith in Jesus, a committed life of action
