John 15:21-25

www.gypr.wordpress.com 2 Samuel 11

21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin. 23 He who hates me hates my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.’

  1. Paul talks about this same concept in Rom 7. 7 What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “Do not covet.”
In the same way, once the people heard and saw Jesus they were responsible for what they heard.
James 1:22-25 says, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.”
We are responsible for what we have learned.

  2. i think this verse is talking about people making fun of u and treating you in a really bad manner and how some people hate him for no reason and they have no reason for there actions. Also that how they see things that they know come from God and they still hate God for what he has done and what he has done. I think that is what it is talking about.

  3. I think that this tells you bout how people afe gonna talk bout you for the rest of your life. But the only thing you can do about it is ignore them or invite them to church or church activities

  4. Obviously, those who dont believe, dont read the bible, dont go to church, and all that stuff…and those who dont do these things, cant really get into a deep conversation about who Christ is and things that he has done, meaning they dont know him.

None of us has an excuse for our sins. We who believe, talk to God, and ask for forgiveness, and ask him to take it all away, but just because those who dont believe sin, doesnt mean that they are going to get away with it, or be able to push it aside because if they dont know who Christ is then they cant really talk to him and ask for his forgiveness and stuff.

Jesus died for us…all of us and if we take that to our advantage and think its okeyy to do all that stuff that we KNOW ourselves is not right, and that God knows is a sin, then we cant just ask for forgiveness and do it again and again and again and go back and forth and back and forth.

Wow…I have not a clue where I went with this….

  5. It is obvious that people, in John’s day as well as ours, are hostile to God and to those representing God. That’s because God is holy and convicts people of sin. People in the world don’t want to give up their sinful ways, therefore they resent God and His people.

What Merry said was dead on. Once we have heard the gospel, we are responsible to make proper decisions based on the information we now have.
We just got a new puppy (Carl) and he is awesome. But he’s just a puppy. He loves to chew on everything. Sometimes Carl finds something to chew on that he shouldn’t. The first time it happens I tell him no, but I can’t really be mad because he didn’t know any better. But once he’s been told not to chew on a certain thing I expect him to not chew on it anymore.
That’s a very simple illustration of what Jesus was saying. People who heard Him speak could no longer claim “I didn’t know any better.” Especially because He backed His words up with miracles.

  6. i think this is just letting you know that people will make fun of you and put you down for being a christan and jesus is trying to tell us not to worry just be what he has vreated us to be because they just dont know what christ is really doing for them…keeping them outta hell

  7. this passage just made me realize something…..i now fully know why little kids that do not know about Jesus or arent capable of learning yet are innocent in Gods eyes. Anyone that does not know about Jesus cant be guilty of sin cause he doesnt know that he is doing wrong. but we know. almost anyone that is of a learning age knows a least what Jesus did when he came to this earth….And i just cant believe that people will still deny that Jesus didnt die for us….that some people believe that all of this world happened by an accident….some people are just odd.

  8. people rejected jesus cause they were part of the world and didnt wanna change and follow him..like we are…to lazy to change and to scared of what people think…we cant jump and raise our hands cause thats not what the rest of the world does…we all fall through this and never have an excuse except the fact its what we wanted to do..we always have a choice…and even these people took a choice and even though they saw him and the miricles they didnt believe and they didnt trust him…but they wanted to kill him cause they thought wrong…its amaizing how they couldnt see god but we have the faith to kno believe and hear that he is with us all the time..we can bow our heads and pray close our eyes and feel his arms wrap around us..but as always we seem to disobey and disobey and then we feel as we should just give up cause we keep fallin anyways…but the truth is all we need is god and its easy to say and truthfully soo hard to follow..they didnt want to believe jesus but if they didnt love jesus they didnt love the lord…and they killed him…and he died for us…all for us..

  9. Think of it this way–when a baby is little, they just do whatever they want to do/think is good for them. When the baby gets a little older, though, it is the resposibility of the parent to let the baby begin to know that some things are not permissible/acceptable/good for them. Why cant I eat dog food??? Why cant I run in the parking lot??? Why cant I pick up dog poop with my hands????

This is what first the Law, and then Jesus did for us. He gave us some guidelines to live by that will protect and shelter us from the decisions our flesh would make that are harmful to us. The world sees Him as some cosmic kill-joy who wants to make it so we never have any fun, but we know that God has our best in mind.

  10. It is clear in this passage, and elsewhere in the Bible, that we are responsible, and guilty, based on the truth that is revealed to us. The Bible says that to whom much is given, much is expected or required.

Part of the reason that these people hated Him was that His life and HIs work revealed their sin and their need for a Saviour. He revealed that we are destitute and hellbound without grace.

The other reason that they hate Him is because they are of their father, the Devil. Satan hates Him because His life revealed the ultimate end and conclusion of Satan and Christ’s death broke Satan’s hold on the world.

When we choose to side with Christ, we must be aware of who His enemies are, and why. SO that their enmity will not catch us unaware and so that we will be prepared to battle Satan and to educate the lost for the Kingdom.

ps. hey Carl, bite his toes when he is sleeping. I bet he hasn’t put those off limits yet.

  11. Im intrigued by the statement that they will do this because of my name—Why His name—Then I thought about the scriptures where is says those who call on my name will be saved, Then a few songs came through my head that talks about the name of Jesus, the power that is found in His name…I read Gill’s study and I copied and pasted it for ya so you can read it

because they were called by his name, and called upon his name; because they professed his name, and confessed him to be the Messiah and Redeemer; because they loved his name Jesus, a Saviour, believed in his name, and hoped in him for eternal life; and also preached him, and in his name salvation, and encouraged others to believe in him; and therefore they had no reason to be ashamed, but rather to rejoice; as they afterwards did, that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name:

I gotta apologize, I am having a hard time putting thoughts together but this thought about His name is really standing out to me…Been fighting a headache for about 4 days now but I know that theres power in the name of Jesus, the very name that causes the demons to shiver and shake, the name that can save you, the name that can set you free…Are you struggling, are you hurting, are you lost, are you hopeless…call on the name of Jesus…He is there…and yes there will be struggles, persecutions and mistakes, but thats what is so awesome about the name of Jesus is He still has the power to save, forgive and heal.
