John 15:18-

www.gypr.wordpress.com 2 Samuel 10

18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember the words I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.

  1. What Jesus went through is NOTHING compared to what we go through today. I mean, yeahh sometimes its tough, but we have to think about what he went through and keep in mind that it doesnt matter what people think about you, but as longg as God knows the truth, and he knows your trying, that should count. Yeahh, its good for others to know that are around you what your changing in your life, but your personal relationship with God is between him and us.

I think that verse 19 is talking about how God chose to bring us into this world, and those who dont believe, judges the ones who do, and that we should stay strong, and if we really love God we cant be afraid of showing it…we cant be afraid about talking about God around those “bad influences,” I guess thats something I personally have to work on because if your afraid to talk about God to those who dont believe, then how can you help them..??

I guess that when we talk to God around those non-believers, yeahh they can judge us, and yeahh they may not like us, but its just hard when you have those people around, and you wanna help, but you cant change what they believe or what they think is right and wrong.

I struggled with this one…maybe it doesnt make sense…I did the best I could……..

  2. Dont worry bout the world.we belong to god.we belong to god because satat owns the world and we dont belong here we belong in heaven

  3. kinda weird at the end that even though the world hates you it will still obey your teaching. funny how people will hate you so much but you can still be able to reach them if you put it in their words or touch a place in their heart.

  4. this is where the whole be in the world but not of the world thing comes in…we wanna be like jesus right?…well Jesus was mocked, persecuted, and constantly hurt and ridiculed…so if we wanna be like Him we are gonna have to go through some tough times because we arent gonna be acceptd as easily as everyone who parties and drinks and does all this stuff that we know isnt right and they arent gonna let us just slide by without being prssured and torn down…but all we gotta do is put our trust in god and know that He can get us through it…whatever we may be facing it isnt to hard for God if we TRULY believe and trust in Him

  5. What is unique is this—Christ just finished talking about loving him and loving others and then comes right back with the world hating you…I thought about the scripture verse You cannot serve two masters you will love one and hate the others…Thats a choice that we make..>But what I find unique is that Christ loves us regardless and the world, aka satan hates us no matter what…Every scripture I read about Christ reflects His love for us and the scriptures referring to satan refer to his hate, his evil…My point…I believe Christ is trying to paint a picture and reveal to us the nature of Him and the nature of this world…

Finally Christ is like hey the servant is not greater than the master so dont think that you will get special treatment and get to avoid some type of persecution, hurt, etc from following Me…I know rejection for many is a very difficult thing to handle but one thing I always think about is this—face rejection now or face rejection later…Bible says, if you are ashamed of Jesus before man, He will be ashamed of you before His father…So its reject now or rejected later.

  6. Some very good comments by all. To piggyback on some things that buttercup and ryan wrote:
We often sing and talk about how much we want to be like Jesus, and in reality we have no idea what that entails. It’s not that we are insincere, I just think many of us don’t realize what we are asking for. Jesus lays it out really plainly for us. He was mocked, rejected, beaten and crucified. Then He said “if they did this to me, why do you think they won’t do it to you?”
Well, here is a possible answer. I think many of us never give this verse a second thought because we aren’t living as radical a life as Jesus did. His statement about His followers getting the same treatment He did only really applies if we are reflecting His life. Many of us don’t, so we have nothing to worry about.
Here is a safe bet. If you never attempt to tell anyone about Jesus, or never choose to live a holy life in front of others, or never stand up for the underdog at school, or refuse to let culture shape who you are….. then you will never have to worry about being persecuted. The world will never associate you with Jesus and therefore will not reject you.
The problem is to many young Christians today are more worried about fitting in, looking cool, and being “rock and roll” than about reflecting Jesus. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with R and R, Jesus was pretty R and R if you ask me. But my point is this; what’s more important to you, someone saying “that kid is really emo/rock and roll/extreme/pretty/cool/whatever,” or someone saying “that dude/chick is really honest/caring/forgiving/consistent/unshakable/etc.”
I would rather be called honest than extreme any day.

Wow, I don’t know where all this came from. Sorry.

  7. Just like PK preached today, the world considers the church old-fashioned and to not be relevant to the world we live in today, but God chooses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise (1 Cor 1:27).
Jesus says that the world will not love us or understand us or the things we do or dont do because they do not know Him. So when we get questioned or even made fun of for the stand we take on issues, know that this is a natural result of worldly men who dont understand or care about the things of God.

  8. We should never lose track of the act that deceit is Satan’s best weapon. In these verses we see that his eternal fight against God is carried to us and to all non-believers when he convinces them to hate the Creator and then us. Satan wars against all things relateded to Christ and we are no exception if we are part of His family.
