John 15:9-13 2 Samuel 8

9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

  2. Ron, there is a small painting party at you know where tomorrow from about 9:30 to 1:30. Drop by if you dare.

El Savo, next time translate from El Salvadorian before you post 🙂

Look at the tradition of love here. God loved Christ. He chose Him, exalted Him, gave Him a purpose, and equipped Him for that purpose.

Christ now asks us to love Him in the same way. We have been saved, He has given us a purpose, and He has equipped us for that purpose. If we obey Him and His Word, we prove our love and can fulfill our purpose.

Then He teaches us the depth of HIs love by showing that He gave His live because of His love for us. He does not expect us to repeat this literally, but to repeat it by sacirificing our desires and dreams, dying to our flesh, so that we can bring life to our brothers and sisters and show them our love by our sacrifice.

  3. Jesus tells us that one reason for remaining in HIs love is so that His joy can be in us. Think of how many popular, successful people that by the world’s standards shouldnt have any problems do things like commit suicide, murder-suicides, have drug and alcohol problems, etc. Why??? Because even though they have many material things, they do not have real joy, and the lack of real joy makes life not attractive. They must either keep doing extreme things to try to find joy, or they just admit that it’s not possible and go ahead and do something drastic and tragic. But Jesus says that true joy is not hard to find. Just remain in His love, and His joy will be yours.

  4. what strikes me about this is how he says all this stuff about how if you obey His commands then you will reamin in His love and it reminds meof a praent and childs relationship bc if you obey your parents you keep their favor but if you rebel it make them sad and that just shows me that god is truly like our faher bc he wants us to listen to Him and treat others ike weve been treated and basicall be good children

  5. In society ever notice people who seem to have everything but are incomplete and then you go to atlanta and the homeless seem to be so happy—Jesus states why, our joy will only be complete with Him…The world says to be happy, you need status and possessions but we see that the Homeless lack both of these and are happy…Why, they know who they are in Christ, they have remained in Christ and Christ has made their joy complete.

  6. What really stood out to me is the concept that our love for God must be accompanied by action. James 2:17 says faith without action is dead. We aren’t saved by actions or deeds, but once we ARE saved there should be some evidence that God lives in us. The first of those evidences should be that we love our brothers and sisters in Jesus.
John was probably remembering this very event when he wrote in 1 John 4:21 “And He has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.”

  7. If we disobey and go against what he wants us to do, then we should repent if we really want to follow Christ. When we disobey what he wants us to do, and we dont ask for forgiveness, that wrong is still there until we do ask for forgiveness and do repent.
