John 3:12-15

www.gypr.wordpress.com 2 Corinthians 8

12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven–the Son of Man. 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.  NIV

12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. F14 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but F15 have eternal life. NKJV

  1. God has told us what the world is gonna become but we dont listen most of the time and we jus go for the world to see for ourselves but….if we dont listen to God when he explains to us how the world works we cant take in what God has to say about heaven becuz we cant even believe that he knows whats best for us and the warnings he gives out….so how can we enter heaven when we know nothin about it…..

  2. People don’t believe what God says about the earth because they think since they were born on the earth and grew up around everything they think they know how it works, but they don’t know what will happen. And God tries to explain it to them and they don’t believe it because it sounds crazy to them so they don’t listen. And if we can’t believe what God is saying about the earth we are familiar with how are we going to believe heaven, where we have never seen before. I hope that makes sense because it sounds better in my head…

  3. Jesus was saying that even when He tried to put things in simple, everyday common-man’s language, most people were still not grasping the analogies related to spiritual matters. This reminds me of where Paul says that they were too immature for meat, they were still drinking milk. (I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 1 Cor 3:2)

So people didnt go to heaven when they died before Christ came??? Any thoughts??

This last verse reminds me of the verse that says that if Christ be lifted up, He will draw all men unto Him. (John 12:32) When we glorify and honor Christ with our lives, others will be drawn by our testimony and will desire what we have.

  4. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?
Have you ever babysat a young baby…if you have or you have brothers sisters children of your own….you know that when your feeding a baby once they get to a certain age they realize that the food your giving them is not the same as what we are eating. They desperately want to eat things that are obviously too big and too hard for them to chew up! As parents we can see this but they can not understand…so what do they do? They scream and cry and beg for things that they can’t really handle.
Okay if we can’t blog, if we can’t read our bibles daily, or pray daily how do we expect God to move in our lives? We pick and choose the things we want to pay attention to in the Bible. We decide what type of Christian we are going to be …passive, active, in between. But the truth is there is only one kind of Christian and if Christ is not number one in your life you might really want to evaluate yourself and see what you are putting in front of God.

  5. This goes a step beyond not grasping, though I like Esther’s point. They didn’t believe, because they were not able to. The preceeding verses talked of the Spirit and His descending upon people at His time and choosing. Without His illumination there is no comprehension of Scripture in the Spiritual sense. It can make logical sense to the natural man, but not enlightened understanding to the soul.

Christ is talking of no man entering Heaven to take away the possiblility of getting there on your own merit. No man can enter Heaven until He has been called and changed. Nick was a Pharisee and they thought their holiness came from strict adherence to the law. Jesus was kicking this prop from under him.

  6. In verse 12 Jesus was talking about how they couldnt believe spiritual things because they couldnt believe the earthly things, then in verse 15 states believe in him you wont die but have everlasting life.

What’s the difference between believing something/someone and believing in something/someone…???

Trust me, I’m struggling coming up with an answer, mostly cuz I didnt pay a whole lot of attention in High School English or it could be that I just finished typing up about 200 praise and worship songs, alphabetizing the songs and then making duplicate books…

Here is where I am coming from…If someone says I belive you and I believe in you…What’s the difference and how does this apply to this scripture? Be back tomorrow to finish my post…

  7. ok chewed on this for a bit…and talked to amy for a bit…the one thing we came up with this…To believe IN someone means that no matter what you support, trust, love, everything they do or say–its almost like an umbrella clause, covers everything…to say you believe someone is a one time scenario, its a one time event…So with this scripture Christ is saying you may believe what I was saying here, the story I was telling, the miracle I did, but to truly believe IN means that no matter what, you trust Christ, follow Christ…Rick you my boy and always help me make sense…Does this make sense???
