1 John 3:3

Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

Remember guys, dig a lil deeper than you have been…instead of summarizing…grap something that really stands out and think about it…write about it…study it…

One more thing…how many of you go back and read each others post…or do you just write and go…try to read every post from the day before and see the views of others…it will help you…this is more than just writing thoughts…its about studying, growing and learning

  1. The webster’s new world dictionary’s definition for hope is “a feeling that what is wanted will happen; desire accompanied by expectation” So I think it means that if we have faith in God, and that he will take care of us then we are purifying ourselves just as Jesus did.

  2. I was reading the beginning of Acts the other day and it amazed me how pure and holy the early church was, they were Christ like. They had His authority and power. Jesus came that we may have a hope and future. I think Jesus is hope, he is the future and always has been. When someone grows as a Christian, really grows, they have this cleansing in them; like because Jesus is in them the become pure, think on things that are pure, have a heart for purity because their heart is for God, they are like children that have seen evil for the first time.

God is pure and never meant for us to be impure so when he takes effect in our life I guess it’s only natural to be purified. And to live that way, actions are symtoms of what is in the heart.

  4. Purity…it is something that can only be acquired by an outside influence…Gold..it is only pure when it is heated with fire and the sludge rises to the top and the refiner scoops it out…Water is only pure when it goes through a process of chemcials and heating and other hightech stuff i have no idea about and then there is us…there is nothing that we can do to purify ourselves…its only Christ’s shed blood that purifies us…sure we do a little by acknowledging we need a savior but its His blood that purifies us…now when we talk about the word hope my favorite passage of scripture comes to mind…Romans 5:1-5…Its my favorite because it shows the path that we travel to gain this hope in Jesus Christ…the travel through suffering, perseverance, character and than hope…People through out the world are searching for Hope…there hope is found in other things but we have the true hope, the saving hope of Jesus Christ…this hope in Christ doesnt dissapoint us, see when we place our hope in other things…they do not secure and seal the hole in our hearts…and the hope that we have in Christ is eternal life with the father, son and holy ghost.

  5. Two thoughts of purity persist. The eternal purity when we stand before the throne and God sees us through Christ’s work, and the purity that we are working toward on earth with Jesus as our example. I think that John is referring to the second type, the purity here on earth.

I think Ron had several great analogies, but I want to carry it a step further. Christ is the only one who can produce purity in us, but we are part of the equation. We must empty, deprive, ourselves of the things that our flesh longs to do, and we must allow the Spirit to fill us in those voids. No one has ever become Christlike while pursuing an agenda of the flesh. This is why JEsus asks us to fast and to deny our flesh. When we free up “room” in our lives for Jesus by removing entertainments and bad relationship choices, we make room for the “purifier” to set up shop and start cleaning us up.

Sadly, most of us have one little corner of our lives reserved for God and He gets in the way ig He tries to take up more room than that.
