www.gypr.wordpress.com Judges Chapter 17
21 ”Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

Ok..So Martha met Jesus, and they are talking about her brother Lazarus. I dont understand how Martha thinks that just because Christ wasnt with her brother, is the reason that he died. She should know that Christ can heal when ever he wants, and where ever he is. If she knew that her brother was to rise again, then why did she even mention to Jesus that if he was with her brother, then Lazarus wouldnt have died??

martha thought that if Jesus would have been there while their brother was sick he wouldn’t have died. but the thing is that jesus already knew he was gonna die and God knew too and martha had said that she knew God would give Jesus whatever he asked so i’m guessing jesus asked that Lazarus would rise again and he did just as jesus had told martha that he would.

Martha said to Jesus. “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” Which tells me that even though her brother died she still loves Jesus. And Jesus said to her-“Your brother will rise again”tells me that Jesus would bring him back

what last day is she talking about?verses 21 and 22 tell me that martha trusted jesus in whatever he was doing even though things didnt go as she had hoped.that is the kind of faith i hope soon to achieve, especially if my brother died!

Martha finds Jesus. Martha said if you was here earlier my brother wouldn’t have died. Now if Jesus was their before Martha’s brother would be still alive. Jesus answered he will rise again. Martha said i know, but in a different way.

so it kinda seems to me that martha is almost blaming Jesus for her brothers death…because she said if he had been there then lazarus would have lived but then He reassures her by telling her that he will rise again but she thinks Jesus means that in the final days he will rise again with all the others who are dead and reign again with Jesus but this time He is literally saying that he is gonna bring him back but she just doesnt get it

There does seem to be a fine line between her expression of faith and her pointing the finger at Christ. There does seem to be some merit to her accusation in that Christ did not come when Laz was sick because He knew that His human compassion might sway HIm. It is obvious that He really loved this family and that they had great trust in Him.
Martha’s statement in verse 22 almost seems counterintuitive. She knows that God will give HIm whatever He asks, so she must believes HIs claims of Deity and that He is sent from the Father. Yet she makes no acknowledgement of His doing the Father’s will and not just making all of His own decisions about how and where to use HIs power. This needs to serve as a warning to us not to always approach each trial with only our own cares and emotions in mind. God causes and allows event to happen to further HIs will and for the glory of HIs Son and we can’t lose sight of this even when troubles times come.

I think it’s funny that even after Martha acknowledge that God will give Jesus whatever He wants, she doesn’t recognize that Jesus is going to raise her brother from the dead. When He tells her that he will rise again, he doesn’t say “Oh, wow! Jesus, you’re gonna raise Lazarus from the dead with God’s help cuz you asked and I just said I know He’ll give you what you ask!!!?”
She said “Well, duh, Jesus….everyone’s gonna rise again on the last day.”
Lol, she missed the whole point.

How often have we been just like Martha—we have faith but with limitations—She believed Christ could heal her brother but only if he had been there—we she here Christ rocking our world—i like to say it this way…Christ does a great job showing Martha the box she has put Christ in, is not where Christ wants to be—so many times our limits, our weakness, puts Christ in a box and He will take every opportunity to show us He is not in a box, doesnt belong in a box—in other words Christ will stretch our faith, grow our faith…

Martha professed to believe that God would give Jesus whatever He asked, yet when she was told what God wanted to do in the situation, she did not believe.

he shows martha that miracles can still happen wether or nto jesus is there or not to help with personal problems or in this case her brothers life.
